Elisha Greenwell on Building Joyful Communities and Creating Lasting Impact
For Elisha Greenwell, founder of the Black Joy Parade, building spaces that uplift and inspire is at the heart of her work. With a background in marketing and a passion for community, Elisha’s mission centers on bringing people together to celebrate culture, joy, and unity. When asked what makes her work worth it, Elisha shared:
“It sounds cliché, but it’s about seeing other people experience joy and knowing that I helped create that. With the Black Joy Parade, it’s incredibly fulfilling to see people light up, especially when they feel celebrated and empowered. There’s something very fulfilling about contributing to the world in a positive way. It feels good to make others feel good, and it reminds me that I’m leaving something meaningful behind.”
Elisha’s commitment to creating spaces of joy is a testament to her belief in the transformative power of community. Her work not only celebrates Black culture but also fosters a sense of belonging and pride.
When asked about a recent accomplishment she’s particularly proud of, Elisha highlighted a personal milestone:
“I had my daughter at 40, and it’s been the most fulfilling journey. I waited until I was ready and didn’t rush the process, even though there was pressure to do so earlier. Being able to take that step on my own terms and experience the joy of motherhood has been incredible. I’m proud of the journey my husband and I have been on, and I’m excited to raise our little one with the same values I bring into my work.”
